Former NXT Champion Adam Cole will reportedly be backstage at the August 6th edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
It was recently reported that Adam Cole’s contract had expired in July and he was appearing under a short-term agreement that would take him through SummerSlam weekend.
More recently it was understood that Cole still hadn’t signed a new contract, and instead was appearing after reaching a verbal agreement with WWE. It has been noted on numerous occasions that Cole remains on good terms with the company because of the way that he has handled the whole process.
A further update has now emerged revealing that the former NXT Champion will be at the upcoming SmackDown taping. The report from Fightful Select notes that there are no plans for Cole to appear on the show, instead he will be attending a “high level” meeting with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
The report also confirms that Cole hasn’t been made an offer by AEW, adding that the two sides are yet to have a formal conversation.
Interestingly Adam Cole has a significant past with many of the higher-ups in All Elite Wrestling, specifically The Young Bucks. Cole and The Bucks were heavily featured during the early days of Being The Elite and The Superkliq as they dubbed themselves were all aligned with Bullet Club along with Kenny Omega. Cole’s girlfriend Dr Britt Baker is also the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion.
It also recently come to light that another NXT Superstar may soon be out of contract. Recent reports suggest that Pete Dunne is in a “similar position to Adam Cole.” The report adds that Dunne’s deal could also be set to expire after SummerSlam weekend.
