One NXT star’s Twitter account is no more after facing backlash over tweets aimed at former NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.
The world of social media is a volatile one, and NXT’s Amari Miller faced backlash when she tried to tweet in support of former NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon, now known as Athena in AEW.
In a now-deleted tweet, Miller indicated her intention of becoming NXT Women’s Champion with the following tweet:
“Shoutout to Ember Moon being the first and only African American @WWENXT Women’s champion… NXT Goal! Let’s make it 2!!”
However, when fans were quick to point out that Sasha Banks was the first Black woman to hold the NXT Women’s Championship after her 2014 TakeOver: Rival win over Charlotte, Miller continued:
“No thanks:) Sasha is German and black I said African American:)”
Attempting to explain further, Amari Miller continued in a subsequent tweet along with information from Sasha Banks’ Wikipedia page that detailed her heritage:
“For everyone on Twitter Fully Black NXT champion (Ember Moon)
“I’m aware what I posted
“Sasha is great and legendary for sure let’s never forget!”

Because fans didn’t accept her explanation, Miller has deactivated her Twitter account altogether rather than face further backlash. Sasha Banks has not commented on the controversy at this time.
Banks is not the first biracial WWE star to have their racial identity called into question. In 2019, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson replied to a tweet and cleared up the fact that he identifies as both Black and Samoan, and that he is proud of both sides of his heritage.
