A rising star in WWE NXT has addressed the wishes of the fans.
In 2023, Trick Williams declared that he wanted to put his partnership with Carmelo Hayes on hiatus. While there was no ill will towards the former NXT Champion, Williams had to prove that he was a star in his own right and not Hayes’ sidekick.
Putting on consistently great matches on Tuesday nights and in the 2023 Iron Survivor Challenge, the fans have rallied behind the former North American Champion, which has been dubbed the ‘Whoop that Trick’ movement.
On the January 26th edition of SmackDown, Carmelo Hayes had his rematch with Austin Theory after their first encounter ended via referee stoppage due to injury concerns. Theory would win the match and would continue to attack Hayes after the bell with Grayson Waller. The assault was quickly cut off due to the arrival of Williams. The crowd came alive when William’s music hit and made it clear they wanted to see more of the former North American Champion soon.
Speaking with Lucha Libre online, Williams remained optimistic that it would happen soon but still has unfinished business in NXT:
Aye, the ‘Whoop that Trick’ movement has begun so, we gotta wait and see (if I’ll be on the main roster moving forward). You never know… NXT Championship, Dusty Classic on Tuesday. Me and my boy Melo getting to work. We got a lot of good things in store.
Williams and Hayes are set to compete in the semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, their opponents are Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde. The winners will advance to the final to face Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin.
Shawn Michaels Discusses Potential NXT Move To WWE Main Roster
As has been the case in previous years, many top stars from the developmental brand have had great cameo appearances in the Royal Rumble. Along with Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker would make his debut in the match and put on an impressive display. After the match, Breakker stated that the main roster felt like home, seemingly signalling the future.
According to a new report, the NXT star is set for big things in the future.
H/t to Fightful.
