Following the release of numerous high-profile NXT Superstars, a new report has claimed that the black and gold brand could be set for major changes.

On August 6th it was reported by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful that numerous NXT Superstars including Bronson Reed, Mercedes Martinez and Bobby Fish had been released by WWE.

Following the news, a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider has attempted to shed some light on the releases. Johnson notes that there has been lots of talk internally about NXT undergoing major changes. This reportedly includes a new logo, new lighting, a focus on younger talents and a different format to the TV shows.

The report closes by saying that the latest round of releases appear to be part of those changes.

You can read the full list of releases below.

The releases come after it was revealed that former NXT Champion Adam Cole was backstage at SmackDown for a “high-level” meeting with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, apparently in an effort to resolve his future.

Taking to social media, Bronson Reed responded to his release by writing that “The monster is back on the loose.”

Kona Reeves thanked WWE and NXT, while Jake Atlas wrote “I’ve always been famous. It’s just no one knew it yet.”

This is the latest in a long line of talent cuts by WWE in 2021. In April, the company released the likes of Mickie James and Samoa Joe, (Samoa Joe has since been rehired) while Superstars such as Aleister Black, Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman have also been let go.
