WWE have officially announced that that Leon Ruff will defend his newly won NXT North American Championship against Johnny Gargano on the November 18 edition of NXT.
This will be a rematch from last week, which saw Ruff shock the world and Johnny Wrestling to become the new NXT North American Champion.
One of the biggest upsets since 123 Kid pinned Razor Ramon with a standing moonsault on Monday Night Raw in 1993, Ruff’s journey to the gold began when Gargano produced a wheel similar to that which decided his bout at NXT Halloween Havoc.
With the names of possible challengers on each section, Gargano had a last minute change of heart and papered over one of the designations in order to replace them with the rookie Ruff.
Johnny’s confidence that he would retain the gold after failing to do so with any of his other reigns was soon misplaced when Ruff proved to be more than a handful.
The deciding factor, however, was former champion Damian Priest who appeared at ringside to distract Gargano, allowing Ruff to snag a roll-up for the victory.
Now the question remains, can Leon Ruff cement his name in NXT or will he be a transitional champion in the ongoing rivalry between ‘The Archer of Infamy’ and the former NXT Champion?
Inside the Ropes will have live coverage of NXT.
