During the December 16 edition of NXT, the brand added their first two bouts as well as a host to NXT: New Year’s Evil which will take place on January 6.
The first and biggest match announced was Finn Balor vs. Kyle O’Reilly for the NXT Championship in a rematch of their NXT TakeOver 31 classic.
After a hard fought and technical war, Kyle O-Reilly prevailed over ‘The Bruiserweight’ Pete Dunne to become the number one contender to the black and gold brand’s top prize.
The last time Balor and O’Reilly collided, both men suffered serious injuries with the champion coming out of their clash worse off with a broken jaw which necessitated surgery to correct. This will be the Irishman’s first match since his last fracas with The Undisputed ERA member.
On the undercard, Karrion Kross vs. Damian Priest was made official for January 6. The bout came around following the events of December 9 after ‘The Archer of Infamy’ told the divine Scarlett that if her boyfriend was hiding in his car then he better come out and face him.
The former NXT North American Champion ate his words when Kross attacked later in the night as Priest was confronting Johnny Gargano and the stable he now calls, The Way.
Dexter Lumis was also announced as the host of NXT: New Years Evil after his rivalry with Cameron Grimes came to a conclusion and the latter was announced to be out of action until 2021.
