Nunzio made a surprise return to WWE on Wednesday night’s NXT, stepping into the ring to challenge Tony D’Angelo for the NXT North American Championship.
The match featured a mini-reunion of the Full Blooded Italians, as Nunzio was accompanied by his former tag team partner Tony Mamaluke. The two had a nostalgic backstage segment before Nunzio’s quick showdown with D’Angelo. On Busted Open Radio, Nunzio shared his experience of stepping back into the WWE environment and praised the NXT locker room.
I thought it was great. I actually went with Francine. She didn’t really know anybody and was like, ‘I want to go with you.’ I said, ‘Honestly, I know who they are, but I don’t know anybody either.’ Everybody was very nice and respectful.
Nunzio also noted that, while his match with D’Angelo was shorter than he had hoped, he understood the dynamics of show business.
I talked to some people, trying to get my own match going. A little shorter than I wanted. Some people went over and stuff. I’m not paid by the hour. Take the minutes off, it’s okay.” I love when they say, ‘I’m sorry I cut your two.’ Okay, so I do three. It’s what you do in that five or six minutes.
The bout between Nunzio and D’Angelo ultimately went just over two minutes, but Nunzio’s return to WWE’s NXT brought a wave of nostalgia for fans who remember his days with the FBI.
