Legendary John Cena Rival Wants Rematch As Part Of WWE Retirement Tour

A WWE Hall of Famer who was a part of one of John Cena’s most famous matches would love to run it back one final time.

With John Cena officially announcing that he would be retiring from in-ring action in 2025, many stars of the industry have congratulated the 16-time World Champion on his memorable career while also pitching to be a part of some of Cena’s final run.

Previously described by commentary as one of the most polarising figures in company history, not everyone has been a fan of the Hollywood star’s act over the course of his 22-year career and have let their feeling be known numerous times. While Cena has competed in front of hostile crowds over the years, a certain show in 2006 saw Cena wrestle in front of the most hostile crowd he has ever experienced.

At One Night Stand 2006, Cena defended the WWE Championship against Rob Van Dam, who announced ahead of time that the match would be his Money in the Bank cash-in. Met with heavy boos, profanity-filled chants and his T-Shirt rejected by the crowd multiple times, there was a distinct possibility that the “If Cena wins we riot” sign seen in the crowd may have foreshadowed things to come if Cena was victorious at the ECW-branded event.

Thanks to interference from Edge and the winning pin counted by Paul Heyman, Van Dam would win the title for the first time in his career to the delight of the packed crowd inside the Hammerstein Ballroom. Despite winning the match that night, the Hall of Famer would still love to run it back in 2024.

RVD Hopeful For John Cena Rematch

Asked about the upcoming retirement on his 1 of a Kind podcast, Van Dam stated that he would love to be a part of it and is confident that he could still put on a great performance almost 20 years later:

“I Hope they bring me in for a rematch with Cena. That would be super cool. I don’t know if they know, but I know I could have that same match, Absolutely.”
