No Plans For Cody Rhodes To Become World Champion Before Injury

Cody Rhodes

Ahead of suffering a serious pectoral injury it appeared that Cody Rhodes was heading for big things, but it seems that the reality was a little different.

After leaving AEW in early 2022, Cody Rhodes arrived back in WWE at WrestleMania 38 to a reception fit for any conquering hero. The star was cheered to the rafters as he saw off Seth Rollins, and this momentum continued as his battle with the former World Champion rumbled on over the subsequent months.

When not performing inside the ring, Rhodes was open about his desire to become WWE Champion, something his illustrious father, the American Dream Dusty Rhodes never accomplished. This naturally led fans to believe Rhodes might be the man to dethrone Roman Reigns at SummerSlam or Clash At The Castle. However, any potential plans for the star were shelved when he suffered a serious pectoral injury in the lead up to Hell In A Cell which required surgery.

Interestingly, a new report has suggested that the plans for Rhodes, had he not got injured, weren’t as grand as some fans may have expected. The report from Fightful Select notes that sources within the company have said that there were no solid plans for the former AEW star to win either the WWE or Universal Championship from Roman Reigns.

The report states that Vince McMahon, who was still in charge of creative at the time, was “all on board” with Reigns and his run as double champion. Furthermore, there had been no ideas floated which suggested that Reigns would drop even one of the titles during the summer.
