NJPW Star Suffers Fractured Hip During AEW Rampage Taping

NJPW star Shota Umino has disclosed the full extent of his injury, unveiling a challenging road ahead as he aims to recover in time for G1 Climax 34, commencing on July 20.

The revelation emerged following Umino’s announcement of a fractured hip and a strained disc in his lower back, affirming his unwavering determination to step back into the ring for the prestigious event.

In a translated post on his X account, Umino candidly shared:

I had a hip fracture and a strained disc; it’s the L4-5 disc. I also had an MRI done. I’ll somehow get back to Tokyo tomorrow. I will definitely be back by G1. I’m going to take a break for a while. Sorry.

The injury transpired during Umino’s match with Rocky Romero at the AEW Rampage taping on June 12th, resulting in his withdrawal from the scheduled NJPW Soul event last Sunday. Despite the setback, Umino remains resolute in his determination to recover and compete in G1 Climax 34.

Notably, Umino is slated to be part of the A Block for G1 Climax 34, where he will face formidable opponents such as Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, Shingo Takagi, SANADA, Zack Sabre Jr, Great-O-Khan, Gabe Kidd, and Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Jake Lee.

Umino’s appearance on Rampage marked his AEW singles debut, following his AEW TV in-ring debut in the Casino Gauntlet on the May 29th episode of Dynamite.
