NJPW Issues Statement On Mercedes Mone

Mercedes Mone at NJPW Resurgence

At NJPW Resurgence, Mercedes Mone looked to add another championship to her growing list of accomplishments, as she competed for the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title.

In the first round of a short tournament to decide the inaugural champion, Mone dispatched Stephanie Vaquer before meeting Willow Nightingale in the final who had earlier gotten past Momo Kohgo.

However, during the match, she suffered an ankle injury and was clearly struggling during the final stages. With the two stars perched on the top turnbuckle, it was unclear exactly what Mone was trying to do, but as she went to jump she lost her balance slightly and landed awkwardly on the floor.

After the event it was reported that the belief backstage was that Mone had suffered a broken ankle.

NJPW has now issued a statement on the injury, although the promotion stopped short of confirming that her ankle had been broken.

During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle.

Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery.

Mercedes Mone Referenced On AEW Dynamite

On the May 24th episode of Dynamite, AEW broadcast a video package covering the match and Willow Nightingale’s win. While the footage obviously featured Mercedes Mone, many fans noted that it was interesting that the star was also referenced by name. Mone has been linked with a move to AEW ever since she walked out of WWE in May 2022. The star herself has also previously discussed appearing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II.
