The partnership between NJPW and STARDOM started in October 2019, after New Japan’s parent company Bushiroad purchased the women’s promotion. STARDOM dark matches took place at Wrestle Kingdom 14 and 15, as well as an exhibition match on the main card of Wrestle Kingdom 16.
On July 29, the IWGP Women’s World Championship was announced to feature STARDOM’s top stars on New Japan’s events. The first champion will be crowned at November’s cross-promotion event, Historic X-Over.
