Two NJPW Burning Spirit shows have been cancelled due to Typhoon Nanmadol.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling has taken to its website to announce the cancellation of Burning Spirit days 10 and 11 on the 18th and 19th of September respectively. The event on the 18th was scheduled to take place in Beppu’s B-Con Plaza and the one on the 19th was to be held in Fukuoka Island City Forum.
The two nights were scheduled to feature the likes of Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jay White, Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi, and Will Ospreay. Former NXT stars KUSHIDA and Jonah (FKA Bronson Reed) were also on the card.
In their announcement, NJPW explained the concern for the safety of those at the event was one of the key reasons for the cancellation.
“As Typhoon Nanmadol is expected to make landfall in the south of Japan on September 18, NJPW has arrived at the difficult decision to cancel the evening’s Burning Spirit event in Beppu’s B-Con Plaza in the interests of safety, as well as Monday September 19’s Fukuoka Island City Forum card.”
The company apologised to fans and said that refunds would be given to ticket holders. At the moment, the Burning Spirit on 21st September in Kumamoto is scheduled to go ahead but NJPW has encouraged fans to keep an eye on their website for any updates.
Following the Burning Spirit events (which began on 2nd September and are to go until 25th September) NJPW is presenting two nights of Royal Quest II in London. It has been reported that the event is nearly sold out entirely. AEW stars FTR are currently scheduled to face Aussie Open on night one for the IWGP Tag Team titles.
