NJPW could be facing the potential departure of one of its top stars, David Finlay, as his contract is reportedly set to expire soon.
This development comes during New Japan’s annual contract renewal period, which typically occurs in mid-January. According to Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp, Finlay’s status within the company is uncertain as his current deal nears its end. Despite this, sources within New Japan reportedly expect Finlay to remain with the promotion, and one source stated that New Japan had expressed interest in keeping Finlay.
Over the past year, Finlay has solidified his role as a cornerstone of the company, serving as the leader of the War Dogs faction and holding the prestigious IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship. As one of the company’s top talents, Finlay has consistently delivered high-profile performances. This Saturday, he is set to defend his title against Yota Tsuji at Wrestle Kingdom 19. The following day, Finlay will face AEW’s Brody King in a singles match at Wrestle Dynasty.
