Nic Nemeth Retains TNA Title With Help From WWE Hall Of Famer

TNA Slammiversary Main Event Plans Changed, Nic Nemeth Not Original Choice To Be World Champion

JBL has once again come to Nic Nemeth’s aid, this time helping him to retain the TNA World Championship.

Nemeth faced off against Moose for the TNA title in the main event of Victory Road. Moose was backed up by TNA World Tag Team Champions Brian Myers and Eddie Edwards, who did their best to thwart Nemeth’s title defense. Luckily, John Layfield – known as JBL throughout his time in WWE – appeared to even the odds.

JBL delivered his trademark Clothesline from Hell to both Myers and Edwards, allowing Nic Nemeth the opportunity to pick up the win with the Danger Zone (formally known as the Zig Zag).

JBL has made headlines in recent months with his appearances at various independent shows, first showing up at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s Triplemanía XXXII: Mexico City event on August 17. This was JBL’s first non-WWE appearance since 1995. JBL accompanied Nemeth to the ring for the AAA Mega Championship match, where Nemeth lost his title to Alberto El Patrón.

On August 24th, Layfield made another surprise appearance, this time at GCW Homecoming during a four way ladder match for the GCW World Championship. The 57-year old delivered a punch and a pair of Clotheslines from Hells to EFFY, allowing Mance Warner to retain.

Following this, after Nic Nemeth successfully retained his TNA World Championship at TNA Emergence on August 30th, JBL made his way into the arena and whispered something to the champion before leaving.

On September 14th, JBL made a shock appearance at MLW Fightland, coming to the aid of the son of a WWE Hall of Famer.

Recently, Nic Nemeth reflected on his epic WWE Money In The Bank cash-in during an interview with JBL.

Nic Nemeth Has No Interest In This Storyline To Set Up A WWE Return

Since becoming a free agent, speculation has surrounded Nic Nemeth’s future. While some expected that he would join his brother Ryan Nemeth in All Elite Wrestling, Nemeth decided to join TNA as well as work with NJPW and other independent promotions. When asked recently about the possibility of a return to WWE, Nemeth made it clear he has “no interest“.

Recently it was announced that a former WWE star is set to make their TNA debut on an upcoming episode of Impact.
