A new WWE signee has opened up on her match against Mercedes Mone in AEW.
At AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door earlier this year, current TBS Champion Mercedes Mone faced off against new WWE recruit and former NJPW Strong Women’s Champion, Stephanie Vaquer.
At the event, Mone defeated Vaquer to retain her TBS Championship and won the Strong Women’s Championship. Soon after, Vaquer parted ways with both NJPW and AEW, to join WWE. Recently, Stephanie Vaquer made her NXT debut in a segment involving Cora Jade, Roxanne Perez, and Giulia.
In the latest edition of her Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone praised her match with Vaquer and claimed how it might have influenced the Stamford-based promotion’s decision to sign the former CMLL and NJPW star.
Following her statement, Vaquer addressed the situation on her Instagram and shared her opinion on the match. Vaquer claimed:
Before that match I had 4 days of just sleeping on planes and weeks of working daily, also many hours without eating, a great challenge with a great wrestler, she was really nice. When you work hard for a long time it always brings rewards.”
Both women had to endure their journey and struggle but made sure to deliver during the match.
Mercedes Mone Opens Up On Her WWE Match Against Bayley
In the same edition of her latest Mone Mag newsletter, Mercedes Mone opened up on her match against Bayley from NXT Takeover Brooklyn. She shared her insights on the bout, and how she went into the match with zero prep.
One Great match I had with ZERO prep between my opponent and me was the one at NXT Takeover in Brooklyn with Bayley. At the time, I was on the road full-time with so little time. In addition, I had to do a panel with Triple H two hours before the doors even opened. I was also coming straight from Smackdown or Raw, so I didn’t even get to work out in the ring with Bayley. We only had maybe five minutes to talk about our match in the ring. I wanted to tell her about this crazy spot.
In truth, I didn’t even want to practice with her or show her the spot because I was afraid that they were going to tell me no, or that the boys were going to see it and that they were going to take it away. Yes, that happens. So, I just kind of told her what I wanted to do. As I said, we didn’t get to rehearse it or any other move. However, that match turned out to be the greatest women’s match ever.”
