Brand new WWE NXT Heritage Cup Championship winner has been crowned.
Recently, World Wrestling Entertainment has been haunted by a series of injuries. With Liv Morgan, Dominik Mysterio, LA Knight, and Chad Gable all sidelined with injuries, popular NXT star Noam Dar has also been ruled out with an injury.
Earlier this year, in April, Dar had defeated Lexis King to crown himself the Heritage Cup Champion; however, he had to vacate it last week following the unfortunate update on him. With Dar no longer fit to compete, the Stamford-based promotion officially announced Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo vs Tony D’Angelo on the 24th June episode of NXT to crown the new Heritage Cup Champion.
Following an extremely close match-up, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo was able to secure the victory and earn his first Heritage Cup Championship. Following a pointless first round, D’Angelo was able to pick up the first point, following a spear to Lorenzo in the second round.
The Underboss was then able to counter it with a roll-up pinfall in the first few minutes of the fourth round, and tie the match with one point each. In the last few seconds of the fifth round, fans witnessed Luca Crusifino hit D’Angelo with a bucket while the referee remained distracted.
While it is yet to be confirmed if Crusifino hit D’Angelo on purpose, a dejected D’Angelo hit Crusifino in the middle of the ring after the match, leaving fans confused about the future of their partnership.
Current WWE Champion Is Open To An MMA Career
Last month, during an interview with Jim Varsallone, NXT Champion Oba Femi discussed his interests in venturing into MMA.
“See, that piques my interest. I actually do have some interest in doing that and if it’s convenient and I have the opportunity to, I would definitely jump on it… TKO.”
