New WWE Expansion Strategy Revealed

WWE look to continue to hold major shows around the world, providing the price is right.

Following the announcement of the first-ever WWE European Supercard in Germany and talks that there could be a second WWE European show in 2024, the company are more international than ever. The past 2 years alone have seen Premium Live Events emanate from the UK, Canada Puerto Rico and the twice-a-year contracted shows in Saudi Arabia.

With a minimum of 4 international shows confirmed for next year as Australia joins Saudi Arabia and Germany in hosting PLEs, this looks to be only the beginning.

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, multiple international cities are in talks with the company to have the sports entertainment powerhouse present a big show in their country to also drive money into the local economy in the process. However, it is noted that the privilege of a WWE show will not come cheap:

We were told regarding that show that WWE is in negotiations with a lot of different city governments around the world to get significant money for PPV events going forward with Paris being one of those cities. Backlash is traditionally the first show after WrestleMania and held in early May.

How Much Does A WWE Event Cost To Host?

With travel costs, how many tickets are likely to be sold and the importance of the show itself, the cost to bring the biggest wrestling company in the world to a city varies greatly. For example, the cost for St. Petersburg, Florida to host the 2024 Royal Rumble was in the six-figure range but the cost jumps astronomically for international bidders. In regards to the cost the Welsh government paid to host Clash at the Castle in September 2022, the total fee was in the multimillions.
