Nikki A.S.H and Rhea Ripley are the new Women’s Tag Team Champions!
Natalya and Tamina had been champions since defeating Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler on the May 14th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. The now former Tag Team Champions had enjoyed something of a fairy-tale run to the titles after coming within touching distance of the gold at WrestleMania 37.
But all title reigns eventually come to an end, and so it was the case on September 20th.
After the unlikely team of Nikki A.S.H and Rhea Ripley came together they made it their mission to become Women’s Tag Team Champions. The pair had steadily built momentum leading into their title bout, defeating the champions in a contenders match along the way.
When the title match got underway, Natalya and Tamina hit the Hart Attack within seconds but Ripley was able to break up the pin. Tamina appeared to have the match won after landing a Samoan Drop but instead of going for the pin went to the top rope for a splash. However, the Nikki just about got her knees up.
Ripley hit Tamina with the Riptide on the outside, while in the ring Nikki rolled up Natalya to claim the win.
The success means that Ripley is now one SmackDown Championship win away from becoming the latest Women’s Grand Slam Champion.
