New Update On The WWE Contract Status Of Adam Cole

Adam Cole

A new report has shed more light on the contract status of former NXT Champion Adam Cole amidst rumours the star has been working on a short term deal that expires after SummerSlam.

Wrestling Inc. first reported on the contract status of Adam Cole saying that the former leader of The Undisputed Era’s WWE deal was to expire after SummerSlam in August. That report also noted that Cole’s deal had been extended to SummerSlam following The Great American Bash in July. At that event, Cole defeated his former stablemate Kyle O’Reilly in the main event.

Fightful Select then followed up that report by saying that within the company it was assumed that Cole’s deal expired in December and internally people were surprised to find out it was actually up in early July. The report adds that those at the top of the company were only aware shortly before the contract expired but Adam Cole told WWE that he would be willing to work through SummerSlam before re-assessing things.

talkSPORT added to the accounts by stating their belief that Adam Cole agreed to a short-term extension to allow him to put over Kyle O’Reilly at the upcoming NXT TakeOver 36 that will take place the night after SummerSlam. O’Reilly and Cole have been engaged in a war since Cole turned his back on the Undisputed Era back in February. The two men fought in an Unsanctioned Match in the main event of NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver in April but Cole avenged that loss at The Great American Bash.

Now in a further update from Fightful Select, they have reported that Cole still does not have a long-term deal in place with WWE. The report confirms that Cole was working with a verbal agreement once the company realised his deal was up in July before officially putting pen to paper on an agreement through to SummerSlam weekend.

The report goes on to state that Cole and WWE have maintained a positive relationship throughout the process and there is still a great deal of mutual respect between the parties.

Given the current climate in the wrestling world about rumours of former WWE Champions ending up elsewhere other than WWE, fans around the globe will no doubt be watching to see what Cole’s next move will be.

Adam Cole has a significant past with many of the higher-ups in All Elite Wrestling, specifically The Young Bucks. Cole and The Bucks were heavily featured during the early days of Being The Elite and The Superkliq as they dubbed themselves were all aligned with Bullet Club along with Kenny Omega. Cole’s girlfriend Dr Britt Baker is also the reigning AEW Women’s World Champion.
