Despite his loyal fan base, CM Punk found himself on a list of the most abused wrestlers online. However, The Best in the World was only ranked at #6. All five names that preceded him were women.
The Best in the World is often cited as one of the most influential figures in professional wrestling. For seven years while he was away, proclaiming never to wrestle ever again, the fans kept chanting “CM Punk” at every wrestling show. They continued to do so, even during other segments or matches. This does not mean that Punk is not without his fair share of detractors.
CM Punk Makes Most Abused Wrestlers Online List, Charlotte Flair Leads At #1
According to CryptoManiaks, based on a new study in the field of sports, pro wrestlers are subject to the most online hate. At #1 was Charlotte Flair, who reportedly got a 36.4% negativity rating, meaning she receives the most online harassment of any athlete in the world, and not just in wrestling. However, this does not affect her bookings as she won the Women’s Royal Rumble this year (her second) on the night of her in-ring return after spending an entire year away owing to injuries.
A close second was Nia Jax, who has been outspoken in the past about getting disrespect from fans. Outside these two women, the top five included Mercedes Mone, Saraya, and Tegan Nox, in that order. CM Punk joined in at #6, followed by Chris Jericho, Cora Jade, The Young Bucks, and Jade Cargill to make up the top 10.
Meanwhile, Punk has taken a backseat on Monday Night RAW as his ongoing program with Seth Rollins was put on hold because LA Knight was next in line to lock horns with The Visionary. They are booked for Saturday Night’s Main Event XL this weekend. It remains to be seen if The Best in the World makes his presence felt.
Charlotte Flair, on the other hand, has forged a tag team with Alexa Bliss on SmackDown. The duo will challenge for the Women’s Tag Team Championship at Evolution II on Sunday. Her heel work has also been slightly neutral lately. Perhaps a babyface turn could be coming in the not-too-distant future? Only time will tell.
