Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair’s WrestleMania main event has reportedly been met by universal praise within the WWE.
The two women headlined WrestleMania Saturday at this year’s event in a match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. The 2021 Royal Rumble winner came out on top after hitting her Kiss Of Death finisher on Banks. After the match as Belair celebrated, Banks was seen at ringside smiling as she watched the new champion in the ring.
A new report from Justin Barrasso at Sports Illustrated has said that sources within WWE have confirmed that there was widespread praise for the match. The report also mentions the insertion of Carmella’s former sommelier Reginald into the story between Banks and Belair going into WrestleMania.
Reginald had become an integral part of the build-up to the WrestleMania main event that was widely panned by fans. He was soon moved from working with Sasha Banks and Belair to becoming a potential love interest of Nia Jax and involved with the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
The report stated that this decision was taken to allow Banks and Belair to have the spotlight of only the second women’s WrestleMania main event match to themselves.
Reportedly the story between Banks and Belair is the biggest narrative currently in WWE. It has had even more focus internally in the company than the work of Roman Reigns, who headlined WrestleMania Sunday. Reigns defended his WWE Universal Championship in a Triple Threat match against Edge and Daniel Bryan. The ‘Tribal Chief’ retained his championship following interference from Jey Uso.
WrestleMania 37 saw fans return to a WWE event for the first time since March 2020. 25,675 fans attended the limited attendance event inside the Raymond James Stadium on both nights. The SI report also indicates that following the success of WrestleMania, WWE is working to have fans attend SummerSlam in August.
