Jay White has been linked with a move to WWE since late 2022, with some believing he was in line to make a special appearance at the Royal Rumble.
Although the event came and went without an appearance from White, speculation went into overdrive in February when he left New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
White’s exit from NJPW was confirmed with two defeats with two big stipulations. He first lost out to Hikuleo in a ‘Loser Leaves Japan’ match before being defeated by Eddie Kingston at Battle in the Valley on February 18th where the loser would be banished from NJPW. His contract with the company officially expired in early March.
This was followed by reports that the star had been negotiating with both WWE and AEW, with the sports entertainment giant becoming increasingly confident of landing the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.
Jay White Not Heading To WWE
However a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider, via PWInsider Elite, appears to rule out Switchblade joining WWE. Johnson notes that there was “no discussion” regarding White during WrestleMania weekend. The report added:
“We are told it does not appear White is WWE-bound.”
While this report is far from a guarantee that Jay White will now sign with AEW, it has previously been stated that he is looking to continue his career in the United States. Meanwhile, he already has ties to the Tony Khan-led promotion having appeared for them before, including competing at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
