New Opponent Rumored For CM Punk At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2

CM Punk on AEW Collision

CM Punk may not be without a dance partner at Forbidden Door 2 after all.

While the wind may be have taken out of the sails of many when a report came out that Punk would not be clashing with KENTA at this weekend’s crossover PPV event, he could very well be facing another veteran of the NJPW roster.

According to a tweet from the Super-J Podcast account, Punk could be potentially tying up with Satoshi Kojima at the PPV. The account initially teased the news that they heard Punk would be in singles action on June 25 but then quote-tweeting that tease with the following:

“Well done to the Bread Dad believers: several sources have indicated that CM Punk v Satoshi Kojima is the new match”

CM Punk Has An Indirect History With Satoshi Kojima

CM Punk would be far from the first major AEW star Kojima has clashed with in the past. Kojima battled Kenny Omega while “The Cleaner” was still with NJPW for starters. Serendipitously enough, he also squared off against Jon Moxley in singles action at All Out 2021, the same card in which CM Punk made his long-awaited return to the wrestling ring.

But the indirect association goes back two decades between Punk and Kojima. The first run of Major League Wrestling had a famous feud between a heelish CM Punk and Raven and Kojima has the distinct honor of being the inaugural MLW World Heavyweight Champion as he defeated AEW producer Jerry Lynn in the first fight for the title.
