New NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Make History

By Sondra Ruth. Published 6th July 2022.
NXT Women's Tag Team Champions Toxic Attraction Gigi Dolin Jacy Jayne Mandy Rose

After holding gold for the better part of nine months, Toxic Attraction were finally defeated and new NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions were crowned!

After winning the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament, Roxanne Perez declared that instead of going after Mandy Rose’s NXT Women’s Championship, she wanted to share her victory with her friend Cora Jade and go for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships instead.

However, the two were interrupted by Kayden Carter and Katana Chance, who said that the line for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships starts behind them, as they’re also best friends and have been teaming together much longer than Perez and Jade. When the young upstarts protested, Chance and Carter attacked.

This led to the two teams clashing last week to determine the true number one contenders, so Perez didn’t have to cash in her Breakout Tournament win after all. Perez and Jade were triumphant in that bout, setting their sights on the Great American Bash.

Midway through the Tag Team Title clash, Mandy Rose attempted to help out her teammates by pulling the referee out of the ring, but she was ejected from ringside for her trouble.

At the ages of 20 and 21 respectively, Perez and Jade made history and now hold the honor of being the team with the youngest combined age to win the prestigious NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships.

In a backstage interview, Roxanne Perez declared that she would be cashing in her Breakout Tournament win for real this time when she takes on NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose next week, looking to defeat Toxic Attraction once and for all.

Toxic Attraction first won the belts when they defeated Io Shirai and Zoey Stark at Halloween Havoc in October of 2021. They briefly lost the titles to Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez at NXT Stand & Deliver during WrestleMania weekend, but regained them three days later on NXT 2.0.
