New NXT Women’s Champion Crowned At Battleground

Lyra Valkyria & Tiffany Stratton at NXT Battleground

Tiffany Stratton is the new NXT Women’s Champion after defeating Lyra Valkyria at Battleground.

The title had been declared vacant following Indi Hartwell’s call-up to the main as part of the WWE Draft. With the developmental brand undergoing some serious changes, this created an opportunity for the next generation to step forward.

One member of that next generation is Stratton is has become one of the fastest-rising and most highly-rated young stars in WWE.

As part of the tournament to decide the new champion, Stratton saw off Gigi Dolin and former champion Roxanne Perez, while Valkyria got the better of Kiana James and Cora Jade.

Valkyria went into the final with a storyline injury after a kendo stick attack from Cora Jade just days earlier, and the damaged knee became a target for Stratton throughout. Although Valkyria initially managed to avoid the Prettiest Moonsault Ever, hitting a Roundhouse kick to seemingly have the match won but Stratton got her foot on the rope.

Despite coming so close to defeat, Stratton rebounded and hit her picturesque Moonsault to grab the win.
