New KO-D Tag Team Champions Crowned At DDT Summer Vacation

New KO-D Tag Team Champions were crowned in Osaka over the weekend as 37KAMINA representatives Konosuke Takeshita and Shunma Katsumata defeated Smile Pissari to lift the belts.

The pair had earned the right to challenge for the titles after winning the DDT’s Ultimate Tag League back in May.

The Smile Pissari team of DDT Pro legend HARASHIMA and Big Japan Pro Wrestling star Yuji Okabayashi claimed the belts back in April after defeating then-champions Eruption at Korakuen Hall.

The pair registered one successful title defence and held the belts for 76 days before falling to DDT’s resident sauna club.

The surging Shunma picked up the pinfall for his team, after nailing HARASHIMA with the Firebird Splash, and in doing so, took the scalp of yet another Hall of Fame worthy competitor (Shunma also holds a win over Jun Akiyama from earlier this year).

The loss marks yet another blow for HARASHIMA, who came up short in his bid to topple Akiyama for the KO-D Openweight Championship at CyberFight Festival.

For Takeshita and Shunma, victory here brings yet more gold to the 37KAMINA stable, adding to Yuki Ueno’s DDT Universal Championship.

Backstage, Ueno suggested that the group’s other member MAO needed to get in on the action and floated challenging for the DDT Six Man Tag Team Championships, currently held by the DAMNATION stable.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
