On SmackDown Natalya emerged victorious in a six-pack challenge to earn the right to challenge Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Tension has been building between the SmackDown women’s division for a number of weeks, and things finally came to a head on June 3rd.
With Ronda Rousey searching for a new challenger, SmackDown played host to a six-pack challenge featuring Raquel Rodriguez, Aliyah, Natalya, Shayna Baszler, Shotzi and Xia Li.
Before the match began, Aliyah found herself locked in a room backstage, but by the time the action started she was able to join the chaos.
For much of the match it appeared that Rodriguez was the favourite to claim the win, especially after she hit her newly renamed Texana Bomb on Shotzi. However, Shayna Bazler saw that the recent NXT 2.0 graduate wouldn’t pick up the victory.
As Baszler locked in the Kirifuda Clutch it appeared that she was just seconds away from a memorable win herself, but Natalya snuck in and scored the pin. After the match, the new number one contender and the champion stood nose-to-nose.
At time of writing there has been no date set for the SmackDown Women’s Title Match.
The bout marks the first time that Natalya has challenged for a singles championship on WWE television since being defeated by Becky Lynch at SummerSlam in 2019. Natalya last held the SmackDown Women’s Title back in 2017, where she enjoyed an 86 day reign after defeating Naomi.
Elsewhere on the show, Drew McIntyre laid down a challenge of his own. While joining the New Day to open the show, the Scottish Warrior said that he would be taking Roman Reigns’ Undisputed Universal Title at Clash at the Castle.
