MVP Confirms First Match Following WWE Exit

MVP in the ring

MVP is set for a match against Josh Barnett at GCW Bloodsport XII.

MVP’s future has been uncertain recently, as his contract with WWE expired in mid-August and a new deal had reportedly not been agreed. His appearance at GCW Bloodsport XI in July suggested the former United States Champion was actively looking for a new path away from WWE, and his social media activity showed an interest in returning to in-ring action.

Speaking with K & S WrestleFest, MVP confirmed he will face off against Barnett at GCW Bloodsport XII, taking place November 24 in Jersey City.

It appears MVP has no bad blood for Barnett, though. Posting on Instagram, MVP shared a photo of the pair together 11 years ago, and described happy memories “drinking bourbon at a bar in the US or whiskey with pro fighters and Japanese gangsters in a Roppongi after-hours club”. MVP also expressed his excitement for the upcoming match, with it being his “first in over 2 years”.

Alongside MVP, a number of former WWE talent have featured recently on GCW programming. Last month, JBL made headlines when he interrupted a ladder match for the GCW World Championship. On August 2, at GCW Now And Forever, Raj Dhesi (formerly known as Jinder Mahal, reunited with his former partners the Singh Brothers.

Recently, MVP has reflected on how he survived being set on fire in a “terrifying” Inferno Match.

Omos Comments On MVP’s WWE Exit

In recent years, MVP has worked extensively alongside Omos, who recently expressed his gratitude towards MVP and shared an insight into their friendship. The Nigerian Giant, who regularly had MVP in his corner as a manager and spokesman, said their time together helped him learn “how to be a good heel”, and described him as “forever [his] guy”.
