According to a new report, Mustafa Ali will not be leaving WWE anytime soon despite requesting his release.
On January 16th Mustafa Ali posted a video on social media revealing that he had requested his release from WWE. The star had been absent from television for a number of months, and it was unclear as to when he would be returning. While it was initially suggested that his absence had been related to paternity leave, it was later revealed that Ali only asked to miss one show.
In the clip, Ali said that he felt he wouldn’t be able to fulfil his ambitions while working for WWE.
“I have a message that is much bigger than my dreams in pro wrestling.
Despite my best efforts, I will not be able to deliver this message while working with WWE.
Therefore, I am requesting my release from WWE.”
Despite this, a new report from Fightful Select has claimed that Ali will not be leaving the company. Although many had expected Ali’s request to be granted, after the two sides discussed the issue, the SmackDown star was informed that his request wouldn’t be granted.
It was also noted that Ali’s deal has multiple years remaining. Fightful add that the term “value” was used frequently during discussions, although it remains unclear as to why Ali will now be staying.
Following the news that Mustafa Ali had asked to leave the company, it was revealed that he was spurred into action following a “heated argument” with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The disagreement was was in relation to Ali’s creative direction and lack of action in recent months.
Mustafa Ali first appeared with WWE in 2016 as part of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. He later appeared on NXT, before becoming a cornerstone of WWE’s cruiserweight division. The star hasn’t wrestled on WWE television since being defeated by Drew McIntyre on October 29th.
