Mustafa Ali seemingly provided a cryptic update on his WWE future as his stand-off with the company continues.

On January 16th, Mustafa Ali posted a video on social media explaining that he had requested his release from WWE. The star hasn’t wrestled on WWE television since being defeated by Drew McIntyre on the October 29th, 2021, edition of Friday Night SmackDown.

However, it was later reported that Ali’s request had been denied, and his deal with WWE had “multiple years” remaining.

Following the news that Mustafa Ali had asked to leave the company, it was revealed that he was spurred into action following a “heated argument” with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The disagreement was was in relation to Ali’s creative direction and lack of action in recent months.

In the run-up to the 2022 Royal Rumble, Ali responded to speculation linking him to an appearance, by saying that he had no interest in the match and simply wanted his release.

In a fresh post on social media, Ali has seemingly revealed that he has two and a half years left on his WWE contract, and doesn’t expect to be in action any time soon.

Mustafa Ali made his first appearance in a WWE ring back in the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, going on to wrestle in NXT before heading to 205! Live.

Despite being unable to capture the Cruiserweight Championship Ali moved to the main roster in December 2018 taking on Daniel Bryan, (Bryan Danielson). After competing at Survivor Series a year later, Ali disappeared from WWE television for seven months. Ali returned to Raw in July, later appearing on Main Event before heading back to the red brand as the leader of RETRIBUTION.

The group eventually disbanded in March which left Mustafa Ali to continue his rivalry with Ricochet on Main Event. When the two Superstars later went their separate ways, Ali teamed with Mansoor, before turning on his partner.

Ali was drafted to SmackDown in October 2021.
