Jay Briscoe, real name Jamin Pugh, sadly passed away on January 17th.
As news of his passing spread around the wrestling world it was confirmed that he had died as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident.
Police have confirmed that the driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident also lost their life.
Briscoe’s daughters were also travelling with the star at the time and have both sustained a number of serious injuries. A recent update on their condition stated that after a number of surgeries both children remain in a great deal of pain. Briscoe and his wife also have a son named Gannon who wasn’t involved in the incident.
Michael Cole Pays Tribute To Jay Briscoe
At the same time as the sad news about Briscoe broke, NXT was on the air and Vic Joseph cut a piece to camera passing on the news to viewers. NXT also scrapped a segment involving the New Day.
On the first main roster WWE show since Jay Briscoe passed away the company again paid tribute to the ROH legend. Shortly after SmackDown went on the air Michael Cole sent condolences to Briscoe’s family and praised the star, while the Viking Raiders wore black armbands carrying the message “Dem Boys.”
Kevin Owens also wore a black armband in tribute to his friend in the main event segment.
In the days after Briscoe’s death a fundraising effort began to offer help and support to his family. The page went live on January 19th and less than two days later has already raised a staggering $237,589 at time of writing.
