There were plenty of teases on Raw hinting at the return of Cody Rhodes to WWE, following The American Nightmare’s shocking exit from AEW.
The wrestling world was stunned when Cody Rhodes, his wife Brandi, and AEW President Tony Khan released statements confirming that the Rhodes were set to leave their roles in AEW. As well as their on-screen roles, Cody Rhodes acted as a company EVP whereas Brandi Rhodes was Chief Brand Officer for the upstart organisation.
Reports since then have suggested that Cody Rhodes could be set for what would be an incredible return to WWE after he left the company in 2016 before going on to become a cornerstone in the foundation of All Elite Wrestling.
With those rumours swirling, there were plenty of teases on Raw that Rhodes could be set for an imminent WWE return. The Miz hinted towards Rhodes making his return to be his tag team partner to face The Mysterios as he seemingly hinted towards Cody’s prior personality as ‘Dashing’ Cody Rhodes, telling the crowd:
“I have found a new tag partner going into WrestleMania. Someone I can relate to, someone I can trust, someone from a fighting family. He’s very dashing! Someone who is an athlete and a celebrity.”
Of course, the tease proved to be just that as The Miz welcomed Logan Paul as his partner before the duo took out Rey and Dominik Mysterio.
WWE Hall Of Famer Edge also seemingly made reference to Cody Rhodes as he issued an open challenge to the entire WWE locker room for a match at WrestleMania 38. Edge referenced facing someone “undeniable” which many have taken as a reference to Rhodes. Cody Rhodes frequently referred to himself as going from “undesirable to undeniable” on his road from WWE to helping build a wrestling empire.
Edge also made reference to facing someone “phenomenal,” someone with an “inner demon” and promised to help whoever he faced to “live forever.” These hints have been taken as references to AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Damian Priest. However, Balor and Priest could be busy with each other come WrestleMania as the Irishman answered Priest’s open challenge for the United States Championship.
