Following her sudden release from WWE, speculation has been rife regarding what led to Zelina Vega leaving WWE.
Many speculated that Vega had been fired for publicly backing unionisation despite there only being ten minutes between that tweet and the confirmation of Vega’s release. However, PWInsider.com have reported several of the details that led to that decision.
The release of Zelina Vega was “fallout from last month’s edict that talents drop their relationships with third party entities” – Twitch, Cameo, etc – and that Vega was informed that she was being released earlier in the day, before the tweet about unionisation, according to PWInsider.com.
It’s also noted that Vega is bound by the traditional 90 day non-compete clause, and cannot work elsewhere wrestling-wise until the middle of February 2021.
PWInsider.com also states that their WWE sources indicated that Vega had been extremely vocal about maintaining her Twitch account after the edict had been handed down.
“I’m sad and I’m completely heartbroken. Obviously, this isn’t the last that you are gonna see of me… I love you all, though, and I’m really really thankful to every single one of you. If I go down as someone who stood up for themselves, so be it. I’m still thankful, I’m not angry. I’m just heartbroken because doing this, being a wrestler, is all I ever wanted to do. I don’t really know what to say. There’s so many things I want to say but I don’t know how.”
