Dwayne Johnson, Hulk Hogan and John Cena are three of the biggest names in the history of professional wrestling. While it can certainly be argued that here have been better in-ring performers, their star power transcended the industry and crashed into the mainstream.
John Cena and Dwayne Johnson are currently two of the biggest names in Hollywood and mainstream entertainment as a whole, while at his peak Hulk Hogan was known across the world, having been the poster boy for the spectacular growth of WWE during the 1980’s.
MJF Compares Himself To “Megastar” John Cena
One man who is striving for that level of stardom, and believes that he is there already is MJF. The AEW star is set to meet World Champion Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear on November 19th. Should MJF emerge victorious it would cement his status as arguably the biggest star in the company. In recent weeks despite mostly continuing to play a heel character on television MJF has also been getting cheers from fans as well as boos. This has led some to question whether he might be about to become a fully-fledged babyface.
Speaking to the New York Post, the star addressed the recent shift in crowd reaction, and claimed that he is simply being himself. The Salt of the Earth went on to compare himself to the three of the biggest names ever.
“Being anything other than myself, fully authentically, doesn’t interest me. I am who I am. People will react to me the way they want to react to me. That’s megastar sh*t. That’s John Cena sh*t. That’s Rock sh*t. That’s [Hulk] Hogan sh*t. There were times in their career when they would come through that curtain and they got the loudest boo and there were times where they came through that curtain and they got the loudest cheer. That’s what I bring to the table. Think people need to stop worrying about fake bullsh*t labels and just enjoy this ride because I’m over as sh*t and it is fun.”
MJF earned his shot at Jon Moxley with victory in controversial circumstances at All Out where he won the Casino Ladder Match while wearing a mask with help from The Firm. The win marked the star’s first AEW appearance in months. The number one contender has since clashed with The Firm, and has vowed to defeat Moxley without cutting corners.
