Three time Dynamite Diamond Ring winner MJF spoke about being compared to The Miz and other masters of the microphone.
At just 26 years old, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has made quite the name for himself since signing with AEW. He’s taken on the likes of Chris Jericho and CM Punk, and is currently embroiled in a feud with his former employee Wardlow after Wardlow cost him his match against CM Punk at Revolution.
Despite his successes in the ring, MJF is best known for being a master of the microphone, cutting scathing promos against his opponents and eliciting emotion from crowds like few can. Because of this, he is often compared to former WWE Champion The Miz, who’s also known more for his speaking ability than in-ring action. In fact, during their recent feud, CM Punk even called MJF a “less famous Miz.”
During an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, MJF discussed the comparisons between himself and The Miz, and says they actually don’t happen much anymore now that he’s proven himself. He also revealed that he used to actively search for these comparisons online.
“So it’s really funny. Before Miz, it was EC3. Before EC3, I think it was Jericho because of the scarf. So it went Jericho [to] EC3 [to] Miz… at points Baron Corbin, which I thought was funny because he’s over six feet tall and he’s a mastodon of a man. I think it’s funny now because that doesn’t happen anymore. I look for it, I’m a nut. I used to type in ‘MJF Miz’ but I don’t see it anymore. I think it’s because I’ve proven myself at such a level.”
Earlier this year, Miz addressed these same comparisons and said that he doesn’t believe MJF wants to be him. He also praised the young star’s accomplishments.
MJF has previously called Miz “one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.”
