MJF is arguably on the run of his career thus far and will be looking to capitalise on his momentum by capturing his first AEW World Championship this Saturday at Full Gear.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman made his return to AEW at All Out in September and won the Casino Ladder Match to become the number one contender for the World Title. He originally appeared to be setting up a match against CM Punk, who was the reigning champion at the time. However, following Punk’s suspension from AEW, he will now face Jon Moxley for the title at Full Gear.
Since his return, MJF has received a ground swell of support from a large portion of AEW fans and also displayed some more babyface tendencies over recent weeks, but the ‘Generational Talent’ insists he is just being himself and will let the crowd react to him in whatever way they want to.
“I’m Over As S**t And It’s Fun” – MJF
Despite being one of the most despicable heels in all of professional wrestling over the last few years, many fans are anticipating and even rooting for MJF to defeat Jon Moxley and capture the AEW World Championship this Saturday.
Speaking to Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, MJF was asked about the recent reactions he has been receiving from fans. In typical fashion, Friedman claimed that the crowd’s reactions are due to him being a ‘megastar’, akin to the likes of John Cena, The Rock and Hulk Hogan.
MJF said:
“Being anything other than myself, fully authentically, doesn’t interest me. I am who I am. People will react to me the way they want to react to me. That’s megastar sh*t. That’s John Cena sh*t. That’s Rock sh*t. That’s [Hulk] Hogan sh*t. There were times in their career when they would come through that curtain and they got the loudest boo and there were times where they came through that curtain and they got the loudest cheer. That’s what I bring to the table. Think people need to stop worrying about fake bullsh*t labels and just enjoy this ride because I’m over as sh*t and it is fun.”
