MJF has just come off a successful defence of the AEW World Championship at Double or Nothing, but he’s been clear on his feelings about the company’s next big event, Forbidden Door.
Taking place on June 25th, the show will see the top stars of AEW and NJPW facing off for the second time. However, if Friedman gets his way, he won’t be making an appearance.
Speaking at the post-Double or Nothing press conference, the Salt of the Earth asked if he “has to” wrestle at the cross-promotional event before claiming New Japan “sucks.”
“Do I have to wrestle at Forbidden Door? F**k that. It’s a f**king Indie fed. With all due respect, their greatest legend probably couldn’t lace my boots.
“I think I would make anybody on that roster look silly, and I don’t want to waste my time. I’m a very busy man. I think New Japan Pro-Wrestling sucks.”
Despite his opinion of the promotion, MJF admitted there is one star he likes, United Empire member and ‘Champion of the British’, the Great-O-Khan.
“Except that Great-O-Khan guy, he pops me. I like him. Everybody else there is the drizzling s**ts. It reminds me of a local Indie fed.”
O-Khan made several appearances in AEW ahead of the 2022 edition of Forbidden Door. At the event itself, he and Jeff Cobb lost the IWGP Tag Team Championships to FTR in Triple Threat match that also involved Roppongi Vice.
MJF claims WWE is interested in signing him
Also during the press conference, with Tony Khan sitting beside him, Friedman namechecked Triple H and Nick Khan as two WWE executives who are interested in getting him into the company.
Now, does Nick Khan want me to work in his company? Sure. Does Triple H want me to work in his company? Sure. [Looking at Tony], calm down, it’s fine, or maybe it’s not, but I’m kind of bored of this sport and I’m bored of the lack of respect from professional wrestling fans.
“So when I say ‘take my ball and go home,’ I mean literally, just hang it up, and f*ck up the lineage of this title. Frankly, I don’t know if anybody is worthy of beating me for this thing.
