Miro has claimed that while with WWE a badly timed leak from TMZ cost him a run with the Intercontinental Championship.
Known at the time as Rusev, Miro debuted on WWE’s main roster in the 2014 Royal Rumble match flanked by Lana.
However, by May 2015 the pair’s run on television appeared to have come to an end as Rusev struck out on his own. Despite this he later attempted to reconcile with Lana although his plans were halted when she began an on-screen relationship with Dolph Ziggler.
With Lana now sending her affections elsewhere, Rusev teamed with Summer Rae. The feud between the two couples continued throughout the summer and culminated in Summer Rae asking Rusev to marry her. Although he initially turned her proposal down, promising to win another championship first.
However, the storyline came to an abrupt halt when on October 11th, TMZ leaked news that Lana and Rusev had got gotten engaged in real life. As a result the angle was scrapped, and shortly after Rusev returned from injury in November, he was back with Lana on-screen.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Sessions with Renee Paquette, the AEW star now known as Miro claimed that the TMZ leak cost him a run with the Intercontinental Championship.
“We saw the post, people thought CJ did it which she didn’t.”
Rene interjects – “Did Vince lose his shit?”
“Yeah, our story got scrapped right away, I was supposed to win the IC title and do the wedding with Summer [Rae] but that all got scrapped. I tried to speak with Vince and tell him this is TMZ who cares and he just said ‘No, this is world news… they are like CNN.”
The star remained with WWE until April 2020 when he was released following what the company described as “budget cuts.”
Miro wasted little time in moving to AEW where he won the TNT Championship. Lana remained with WWE until being released a little over a year later in June 2021.
Since leaving the company, the real-life CJ Perry has yet to return to wrestling, although she recently revealed to Inside The Ropes own Liam Alexander-Stewart that a return to the squared circle is far from off the table.
