Mike Tyson has a long history with professional wrestling and WWE in particular.
The former World Heavyweight boxing champion famously appeared on Raw the night after the 1998 Royal Rumble and got into a scuffle with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Over the next few months, Tyon remained involved with the company making numerous appearances leading to being assigned the “special enforcer” for the main event at WrestleMania XIV.
The clash between Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin saw The Rattlesnake win the World Championship with Tyson counting the pin-fall. Michaels, who had believed Tyson was part of D-X confronted him after the bell only to get knocked out.
Speaking on an episode of his Hot Boxin podcast with special guest The Undertaker, Tyson recalled his big night at WrestleMania as he rewatched the match with The Deadman. Tyson claimed that Vince McMahon paid a “couple of million” for his appearances.
“They gave me so much money. I was in debt, too. I got a couple million dollars, I was so proud. Vince (McMahon) became my main man,”
Tyson later said that while AEW has wanted to work with him previously, he’d rather appear in WWE.
“Tony Khan and those guys, these guys wanted to put me on the show and stuff before. I don’t care if they got more money. Vince put on the show, I’d rather go there, even though [AEW] pay more money.”
Has Mike Tyson Ever Appeared In AEW?
Despite his love for WWE, Mike Tyson has appeared for AEW on numerous occasions. Most recently he provided commentary on the November 4th, 2022 episode of AEW Rampage. At the time, Tyson described being involved as an “honour.”
