Speaking with Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy, legendary referee Mike Chioda opened up about the relationship between Vince McMahon and WWE’s referees.

Speaking courtesy of AdFreeShows, the legendary referee known backstage as ‘Coyote’ would discuss the WWE CEO’s “confidence” in him and whether Vince McMahon would heavily produce referees, as is often said about his relationship with commentators.

“I mean, Vince had a lot of confidence in me. He had a lot of confidence in me. The only time he would get on me would be about another referee and say, ‘Hey, I need you to talk to this guy and talk to these referees and make sure this doesn’t happen again.’ But as far as Vince, you know, great business relationship with them and more of a relationship with Shane McMahon years ago over the years. But my relationship with Vince was great backstage. Like I said, he had confidence in me. The only time he’d get on me would be about another referee not doing their job.”

Mike Chioda would go on to reveal how Linda McMahon called him and Tony Chimel up, and gave them 2,000 shares in the company per year of employment – 15 years in total.

Chioda also opened up to Inside The Ropes about the Montreal Screwjob, and how he experienced it all alongside Owen Hart.
