While Mike Chioda has officiated some of the biggest matches in WrestleMania history, the long serving referee has revealed that there’s still one that got away.
Answering questions on ‘Monday Mailbag’ – which is available on AdFreeShows, Chioda opened up about the one match that he wishes that he could have refereed.
While Chioda got to referee the match between John Cena, The Big Show and Edge for the World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania 25. It was the match which proceeded it that he really wanted. The now legendary clash between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels.
Recalling the match, Mike Chioda said that while Charles Robinson did a great job, he wishes that he could have had that match.
“If you knew that match was gonna be that good you would have put that match on last.”
“It was phenomenal. That is one match, I know Charles Robinson had that match, it’s one match that I always wish that I had. Charles did a great job in that match. A fantastic job.”
Chioda went on to explain how it was difficult to watch any of the clash, as he was getting ready for his own match immediately afterwards.
“I mean you know, we’re worried about what we’re doing. Where we’re up in guerrilla, then you work your way up in guerrilla, and then you’re going over everything, and than you get caught watching the match on guerrilla for a little bit… [laughing] then you go back to talking about this. It’s like holy sh*t! You know? That was a phenomenal match.
That’s one match… That match that’s got to be, it was for me Rock and Hogan, and certain other matches at WrestleMania’s, Rock, Stone Cold and so forth. Stone Cold and Shawn, I mean that’s got to be one of Charles’ top matches right there, Taker and Shawn Michaels, got to be one of the top matches in his career.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Chioda also revealed one of Vince McMahon’s biggest pet peeves. Lifting the lid on how it’s something which he “hates the most.”
