Former WWE couple Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis are reportedly returning to IMPACT Wrestling following the decision from Ring Of Honor to go on hiatus.
Bennett is known for his time in Ring Of Honor as part of The Kingdom as well as competing using his wife’s surname in WWE. Bennett joined WWE with a returning Maria Kanellis in 2017. Together the couple were part of the Raw brand before mainly being seen on 205 Live.
Mike Bennett and Maria had a memorable storyline in 2019 where Kanellis would insult her husband mercilessly. This led to the moment where a pregnant Kanellis won the 24/7 Championship before losing it to Bennett during a staged medical exam.
Both Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis were released from their WWE contracts in April 2020 as the company began making a raft of budget cuts to the roster that have continued well into 2021. Since then both returned to Ring Of Honor where Bennett revived his team with Matt Taven and won the ROH Tag Team Championship, losing the gold at Final Battle against The Briscoes.
However before the couple debuted in WWE in 2017, they also spent some time in IMPACT Wrestling where Kanellis memorably became Knockouts Champion as part of a storyline that also saw her take on the role of Knockouts Commissioner.
Now it has been reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis are set for a return to IMPACT following Ring Of Honor’s decision to go on a hiatus following their Final Battle event:
“Mike Bennett looks to be heading here [IMPACT], and I’d think Maria Kanellis would be as well. Both have histories here and are free agents having been under contract to ROH. Bennett pulled out of a January indie show and the promotion said it was due to a schedule conflict with IMPACT tapings.”
Bennett, who is also a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling with Taven, recently took to social media to showcase his incredible body transformation.
