Mickie James has revealed that Nick Khan personally apologised to her at the 2022 Royal Rumble.
In the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble match, Mickie James made what was considered one of the most unlikely comebacks in recent memory.
In April 2021, Mickie James was released by WWE as part of wide-ranging budget cuts. It was later revealed that she had her belongings sent to her in a trash bag. It was a move which drew huge criticism from fans and brought an apology from the company.
In addition, WWE employee Marc Carrano who was said to be responsible, eventually lost his job over the incident.
Speaking with Inside The Ropes‘ Lead Writer Gary Cassidy in 2021, James revealed that she had received a personal apology from Vince McMahon for what transpired. James has now recalled receiving an apology from WWE President Nick Khan at the Royal Rumble.
In conversation with Sportskeeda’s Riju Dasgupta, James said that she never felt that she was being vindictive towards the company in the wake of her departure.
“I don’t feel like I was ever vindictive or (negative), because I spoke to Vince on the phone personally the day that it happened. He called me and we had a conversation. I go back and replay that day in my head so many times,” said Mickie James. “I had missed calls from Johnny Ace, from (Triple H), from Stephanie. they had all sent me text messages and I was also in the middle of a photoshoot when the thing went viral.”
Continuing on, James detailed her apology from Nick Khan.
“Even Nick Khan came up to me at the show and apologized. I think he was a part of the company but I hadn’t met him or knew who he was at that time, because it was an early transitional phase. But even he apologized to me and (said) this should have never happened, and I agree. It should have never happened, it shouldn’t have happened ten years ago, and now it will never happen again.”
Another thing which added to the surprise of James’ Royal Rumble appearance is that she’s the reigning IMPACT Knockouts Champion. In the wake of her comeback, it was revealed that there were a number of banned words and phrases announcers weren’t allowed to use.
