Mickie James On Age And Being Given A Walker In WWE – “It’s Bullsh*t”

Mickie James

Mickie James has hit back at WWE for the angle where she was given a walker by Alexa Bliss and says wrestling is late to the party where age is concerned.

James was released from her WWE contract alongside several other competitors on the 15th of April 2021. Joining Mickie James in leaving the company were talents such as The IIconics, Kalisto, and Samoa Joe. Following her release, James made headlines when she took to social media to reveal that her belongings had been returned to her by WWE in a trash bag. This prompted public apologies from both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon and talent relations supremo Mark Carrano lost his job amid the fallout.

Now in conversation with Chris Van Vliet, the six-time WWE Women’s Champion has hit back at the company for another reason – ageism. According to James, says wrestling needs to catch up with the rest of the world and look past people’s ages.

Mickie James explained:

“It isn’t fair, but I think it has always been a culture when I first came on. It was when you are 35, women are done. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I have been relevant on TV for the last 15 years. I am all about building towards the future, but you can’t sh*t on your former champions and the history that was made. Maybe it’s because I am a wrestler and I look at it like a fan. I am up on what is relevant in 2021. J-Lo is one of the sexiest women and she is 50.”

“We don’t look at age like that anymore, but wrestling has been late to the party. I couldn’t wrap my head around it and find it funny that I’m given a walker. It’s bullsh*t and it’s not funny. I was offended and I said I was. But I am a professional and as a pro you go fine and let’s see what the people say. 9 times out of 10 I was right, but it’s already happened. I had to do it just to prove a point. I feel like you should trust me to know I am not an idiot. I am looking at it through the lens of our audience.”

At the moment in WWE, the WWE Champion Bobby Lashley is 44 years old while WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns is just a pup in comparison at 36. The Raw Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is 24 years old and SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair is 32.

This year’s WrestleMania Sunday saw Reigns compete with Daniel Bryan and Edge in the main event. Between them, the three men had an average age of 40 years and 4 months. Compared to when women first headlined a WrestleMania event in 2019, the average age then of Charlotte Flair, Ronda Rousey, and Becky Lynch was 32 years and 4 months.

Mickie James recently announced her intention of holding an all-female wrestling event in conjunction with the National Wrestling Alliance.
