Mickie James has responded to the controversial kiss between Jade Cargill and Tay Conti at AEW Revolution.
AEW Revolution was a night of grudge matches, debuts and shocking moments. While CM Punk and MJF went to war in a blood-soaked Dog Collar Match, Jade Cargill waged her own version of phycological warfare as she squared off against Tay Conti.
Heading into the bout, Cargill was keen to defend her undefeated record as well as her highly prized TBS Championship. Meanwhile, her opponent Conti, arrived at AEW Revolution a woman on a mission, in search of her first taste of championship gold.
Cargill came out in eye-catching ring gear inspired by Mortal Combat character Jade, with all the confidence of a champion. Once in the ring, Conti got in Cargill’s face, talking smack and trying to get into her heard, in response, Cargill planted a kiss on her rival.
After the match, Cargill took to social media writing “Soft lips Tay Conti.” Former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James has now posted her own cheeky response to the moment on Twitter. James, who famously kissed Trish Stratus during their rivalry, commented that she “kissed back.”
In the match itself, Cargill retain her title, moving to 29-0.
Elsewhere on the show, Hangman Adam Page successfully defended his AEW World Championship against Adam Cole. Meanwhile, the event also saw the shock debut of William Regal.
Regal’s shock debut came after a brutal clash between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. As predicted, the two men had gone to war, serenaded by chants of “We want violence” from the fans in attendance. Moxley was bleeding heavily as the pair traded stiff strikes, headbutts, submissions and everything in between.
The end of the match came when Moxley revered a submission into a pinning predicament to grab the win. The pin caught everyone except Moxley and the referee by surprise, as it was a moment of cunning rather than brutality that settled the contest.
After the match, Danielson confronted the referee getting in his face, before he went after Moxley once more. As the two men renewed hostilities in the middle of the ring, a number of referees ran to the ring to break up the brawl. But the real story was yet to come.
Following the officials, totally unannounced was William Regal. The former much-loved NXT General Manager got the men apart before slapping Moxley. He then got in Danielson’s face and laid a shot in on the American Dragon. With both men in shock, the veteran instigated a handshake between them.
