WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley had a legendary career in wrestling but now he has named the one match he ranks above all others from his years in the ring.
Mick Foley built a name for himself in WCW as Cactus Jack. During his time in that company, Foley competed in the infamous War Games match and mixed the biggest names the company had to offer as he shared the ring with the likes of Sting, Big Van Vader, and Ron Simmons.
Following his years in WCW, Mick Foley competed for ECW where he is best remembered for his anti-hardcore persona that was hated by the disciples of extreme. Foley also famously took part in the 1995 King of the Death Match tournament for IWA Japan, where he defeated Terry Funk in a No Ropes Barbed Wire Exploding Barbed Wire Boards & Exploding Ring Time Bomb Death Match.
From there Mick Foley joined the relative safety – or so he might have thought – of WWE. His feud with The Undertaker in 1996 led to innovations such as the Boiler Room Brawl and Buried Alive match but it is his 1998 Hell In A Cell bout with the Deadman that has endured the longest in wrestling fan’s memories.
Speaking on his Foley Is Pod podcast, Foley revealed however that the number one match of his career came closer to the end of it. As he told co-host Conrad Thompson:
“Backlash is number one for me.”
The Backlash match Mick Foley is referring to came at the event in 2004 when Foley donned the leopard print boots of Cactus Jack one more time to face Randy Orton in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Unfortunately for the Hardcore Legend, Orton lived up to his Legend Killer moniker on the night as he defeated Foley.
As far as the number two and three matches on his all-time greats list, Mick Foley plumped for his Mind Games classic with Shawn Michaels in 1996 and his Royal Rumble 2000 Street Fight with Triple H.
