Legendary WWE announcer Michael Cole has spoken out about the tapings he missed and the reasons for his absences.
Along with being one of the most tenured employees in the company, Cole is also one of the most dedicated. Throughout his 28-year career with the promotion, Cole has only been away from the desk 3 times, very much living up to his “voice of WWE” moniker. A part of at least one broadcast each week, fans have always found it strange when Cole is not on the call for his regularly scheduled brand.
While appearing on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, Cole detailed the reasons behind each of his absences. The first was because his wife’s kidney transplant was rescheduled as the original date of the operation was the same day as the September 11th attacks:
“One was my wife had a kidney transplant back in 2001. So there’s an interesting story about this. Her brother-in-law was the one who was going to give the kidney, so since he was a living donor we could play around with the schedule. She was actually supposed to receive her kidney transplant on September 11th 2001. We were actually in the hospital that morning [in New Jersey] when everything happened.
They hadn’t begun the procedure yet so they shut everything down as all the hospitals in the New York City area had to become trauma centres. So her transplant was put off for 3 weeks and it was scheduled for a Monday, which happened to be Raw.”
Later in the interview, Cole stated the other 2 reasons were for his son’s wedding and for a family vacation:
“The second one was my son’s wedding and the third one was we actually took a family trip last year, first time we had everyone together.”
