AEW star Mercedes Mone took a pointed jab at WWE, just days before her massive match at All In: Texas.
Mone has been on a meteoric rise since joining AEW. She currently holds five championships across multiple promotions, including the AEW TBS Title, and recently won the Women’s Owen Hart Cup in the Jacksonville-based promotion. Now, just days before her match against Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In, she took a massive dig at her WWE persona, Sasha Banks.
Mone, along with Naomi, left the company in 2022 because they were unhappy with the creative decisions for the women’s division.
Mercedes Mone Says, “The CEO Is Everything The Legit Boss Wanted To Be.”
Speaking in an interview with CBS Sports, Mone said the biggest difference between her current character and Sasha Banks was that she had more control over every aspect of her life and career now:
She wanted it all, but she never got to hold it all. Mercedes Mone, the CEO, is everything ‘The Legit Boss’ wanted to be. She controls her life, narrative, and intellectual property.”
She also admitted that ever since leaving WWE, she had hit a new high in her career, implying that signing with AEW had given her more control over her character, which is why she feels fulfilled both personally and professionally:
It’s being the boss of your life, taking control and doing that daily. I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my professional wrestling career. It’s so crazy to say that. I thought maybe my 20s would be my highest point. Here I am going into my 15th year of professional wrestling feeling my greatest. I can’t even imagine what the next five years will hold.
Getting to have dreams when I go to sleep and waking up to achieve them, not being told I can’t. It’s getting to do more than just professional wrestling.”

While these statements may seem a bit harsh, there is no denying that Mone’s career has been on an all-time high since joining the Jacksonville-based promotion, so it is not entirely unfair of her to make such a comparison.
The CEO has spoken about having more creative control in the past, and her current victories have led many to speculate that she is misusing the same, something that was shot down by Tony Khan recently.
