Mercedes Mone Suffers Major Setback Following Injury At NJPW Resurgence

Mercedes Mone in NJPW & STARDOM

Mercedes Mone made her most recent appearance for NJPW at Resurgence on May 21st, but things didn’t quite work out as she had hoped.

The former WWE star took part in a one-night tournament to decide the NJPW STRONG Women’s Champion. In the first round, Mone dispatched Stephanie Vaquer before meeting Willow Nightingale in the final who had earlier got past Momo Kohgo.

With the two stars perched on the top turnbuckle, it was unclear exactly what Mone was trying to do, but as she went to jump she lost her balance slightly and landed awkwardly on the floor.

Although she made it back in the ring and continued the match, Mone was struggling to put any weight on her right leg. It has been reported by PWInsider that the word backstage is that the star has broken her ankle.

Nightingale won the match following two Doctor Bombs, while Mone was helped to the back after the final bell.

Mercedes Mone Optimistic Despite Injury

Posting on social media after the match Mone wrote said that while her night didn’t end as planned she’ll make sure to be back better than ever.

“WRESTLING!!!! Phewnot how I dreamed for tonight to go. I’m so sorry and I love you guys so much. I’m gonna heal and be back better than ever. Moné.”

Mercedes Mone has been linked with an appearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door II on June 25th, but any potential match now appears to be off if her injury is as serious as is being reported.

The first Forbidden Door event in 2022 was cursed by injury problems with a number of prospective matches having to be changed.
